About

Sarantium exists to give SMBs and PE-backed companies the financial and operational clarity that was previously only available to large enterprises.

The belief behind the practice is simple: finance and operations can run meaningfully better with a small, well-placed lift from data strategy and engineering. At their core, accounting and data are the same discipline — both are about turning raw information into decisions. Most businesses have the raw material. What they're missing is the infrastructure to surface it clearly and the expertise to act on it.

We build that infrastructure. Not by ripping out existing systems, but by connecting what's already there — QuickBooks, NetSuite, Excel, CRMs, operational platforms — and making them work together. The result is faster close, cleaner reporting, and better margin visibility, delivered in weeks, not quarters.

Engagements are led by Michael Cohen, with specialists brought in when the scope demands it. We don't staff projects with generalists to fill hours — if a client needs a specific data engineering capability or a domain expert, we find the right person for that outcome. Every engagement stays small, accountable, and direct.

Michael came to this work through accounting. He studied it because it was the language of business — the clearest way to understand how a company actually works — and always intended to use it operationally, not as a reporting function. He started in public audit at Marcum LLP, moved to PwC's asset and wealth management practice, and spent time in PE finance at Audax Private Equity in Boston. The credential was valuable. The pattern it surfaced was consistent: the numbers existed. The systems to surface them clearly didn't.

When he left New York and stepped back from Big 4, he started taking on work for friends and family — Excel cleanup, financial modeling, basic automation. Better analytics led to better questions. Better questions pushed the limits of what spreadsheets could do. That gap is where this practice was built.
